Ayurveda

Ayus – life, all aspects from birth until death

Veda – knowledge

the translation of Ayurveda is “science of life” and it can be seen as the science acknowledging life in its entirety to then support and teach us how to live a long and healthy life in harmony with our environment.

it is said to be older than 5.000 years and it is fully embedded in observing the laws of nature which are unchanging. therefore Ayurveda could stood out time to offer us an holistic approach to the way we are walking through life encompassing all elements underlying life itself.

Doula

doúlē (greek) – servant

a doula is a woman conversant with giving birth assisting, supporting and nourishing other women during their pregnancy, birth and also postpartum.

the term Ayurdoula implies Ayurveda and doula and simply means that the embodiment of being a doula is rooted in ayurvedic principles.

in Ayurveda it is said that through giving birth there occurs a profound vata imbalance as the physical, emotional and also energetic resources are depleted through a loss of blood and fluid and also a loss of energy in general. even though those are natural processes happening through childbirth they create a certain vulnerability.

after giving birth the body is still open, still wide and soft. this openness can create instability in body and mind and dryness which if left unaddressed lead into digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, exhaustion and difficulty in bonding and breastfeeding.
